Shastri Conferences Grant (One Health)

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) is pleased to invite proposals from faculty members, scientists, and professionals to organize a conference on One Health.  One Health is an approach to designing and implementing programmes, policies, legislation, and research in which multiple sectors work together to achieve better public health outcomes.

'One Health' integrates health, productivity, and conservation issues by bringing different sectors together. It is a new approach worldwide and so is in India. Numerous initiatives are underway in several Ministries of the Government of India, and private organizations in addition to global activities. India with its diverse wildlife, one of the largest livestock populations, and high density of human population, carries heightened risks for inter-compartment risk of disease spread. By reviewing the areas of focus and underpinning each effort, we can identify opportunities for collaboration and find ways to fill existing wide gaps.

Most importantly, grant recipients will be required to present a policy paper based on conference proceedings to SICI as part of grant requirements. This policy paper will be shared with relevant stakeholders to assist them in making future decisions in the domain of inquiry.

Therefore, the applicants are advised to ensure that the selected theme of the conference has the potential to contribute to policy formation. Hence, a comprehensive approach with the right balance of qualitative and quantitative methods be devised to formulate the structure of the Conference programme.

To cover diverse disciplines of human health, animal health, plant health, soil health, environmental health, and ecosystem health the topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Zoonotic diseases
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Food safety and food security
  • Vector-borne diseases
  • Environmental contamination
  • health threats to people, animals, and the environment

Applicants from member institutions are advised to collaborate with member institutions, businesses, and industries, federal/central/state/provincial governments, as part of the proposed activities. Furthermore, SICI will appreciate engaging institutions and people of importance from institutions that are not members of SICI. However, the lead applicant must be from a member institution only.

Since 'One Health' follows an integrative approach, tripodal activities related to human, animal, and environmental health are encouraged.
