SICI-USASK SEMESTER IN INDIA (ASII) PROJECT 2023-24

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI), in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan (USASK), is pleased to announce a Call for Applications from Canadian students (undergraduate level) for A Semester in India (ASII) Project. The ASII Project is part of SICI's Short-term Outbound Mobility Program, Canadian Scholars to India (CSI). Global Affairs Canada, the Government of Canada, supports the CSI Program. The target of the CSI Program is to improve and diversify Canadian scholars' (student and faculty) academic mobility to India.

The ASII Project offers a 13-week Semester in India from January to April 2024. The Semester will consists of two USASK-approved courses: (1) Culture, Society and Politics in India and (2) Globalization and Development in India. The course format includes formal lectures, classroom discussions, guest lectures, study/field trips, and cultural immersion experiences. The participating students will receive nine (9) credit units from the USASK.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN) in Ahmedabad, Gujrat, India, will be the primary home for the ASII Students. In addition, Students will also visit several leading Indian institutions such as Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Banasthali Vidyapith. Besides, Students will also be given guided tours in some of India's major national and cultural sites.

ASII Project Objectives

The ASII Project aims to strengthen the global talent of Canadian post-secondary (undergrad level) students by offering a Semester Abroad in India. The ASII Project seeks to do this by:

  • Encouraging international mobility of Canadian students;
  • Providing Canadian students with firsthand experience of living and studying in India;
  • Enhancing global knowledge, development and competencies of Canadian students;
  • Enriching the multicultural understanding, networking, confidence and overall exposure of Canadian students;

Semester Period

  • January to April 2024 (13 weeks)

Eligibility

  • All Canadian Undergraduate students from SICI's Canadian Member Universities are eligible to apply. A list of the Canadian Member Universities is available at this link: (https://www.shastriinstitute.org/canadian-member-institutions)
  • Students must have completed 30 credit units of undergraduate courses by December 30, 2023.
  • Financially challenged and Indigenous students are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Students must have proficiency in the English language.

Value of ASII Grant

  • SICI provides up to CAD$ 7,000 to cover program costs for each qualified student.

Cost to Students:

  • Tuition fee for 9 cu courses- approx. CAD$ 2,100
  • Program fee – approx. CAD$ 2,700

Note: Students may apply to their universities for local funding for the Semester abroad program to reduce costs (and arrange transfer of credits with home institutions).

  • All Students will register with USASK for 9 credit units of courses.
