Program Overview

The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) invites applications for the Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grants (SSTSG) 2025–26, a flagship initiative that promotes scholarly exchange and institutional collaboration between Saskatchewan and India.

This special call is offered exclusively to publicly funded post-secondary institutions in Saskatchewan under the Saskatchewan–Shastri Engaging Saskatchewan in India (SK-SESKI) initiative, in partnership with the Ministry of Advanced Education, Government of Saskatchewan. The program supports Saskatchewan’s efforts to expand academic, research, and innovation linkages with India.

Program Objectives
  • Facilitate academic exchange and enable Saskatchewan scholars to participate in conferences, workshops, seminars, and academic visits in India.
  • Support professional development and global exposure for Saskatchewan faculty, researchers, and graduate students.
  • Strengthen institutional partnerships and contribute to long-term collaboration between Saskatchewan and Indian higher-education institutions.

CAD $1,500 (international, economy-class, round-trip airfare between Canada and India)

To recipient’s institution upon project completion and approval of the final report

Not Covered

Visa fees, meals, per diem, accommodation, or other personal expenses

Eligibility:
Eligible Institutions:
  • University of Saskatchewan
  • University of Regina
  • Saskatchewan Polytechnic
  • Regional Colleges: Carlton Trail, Great Plains, North West, Southeast, Suncrest
Eligible Applicants:
  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents affiliated with the above institutions.
  • Full-time faculty members/instructors, researchers, doctoral or post-doctoral students.
  • Each institution may receive one SSTSG award (faculty or student) in 2025–26.
  • Past recipients must wait two full years after submission of their final report before reapplying.
Application Requirements
  • Event Description (up to 3 pages) – objectives, key themes, expected outcomes, and linkages to India.
  • Scholar Profile and Contributions (up to 2 pages) – academic background, research profile, and anticipated benefits.
  • Proof of Acceptance – confirmation letter or invitation from host institution/event organizer.
  • Curriculum Vitae of Applicant – maximum 3 pages.
  • Curriculum Vitae of Academic Host (for academic visits only) – maximum 3 pages.
  • Proof of Citizenship/Residency – valid passport or PR card.
  • Community Certificate – for Indian scholars (if applicable).
