Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is pleased to announce a call for Applications for Shastri Research Student Fellowship (SRSF) 2016-17 for doctoral students, post-doctoral scholars and students enrolled in degree programmes in recognised Indian & Canadian universities or institutions to undertake research in areas/ fields in which scholars may desire/require research experience in Canada/India. This Programme will provide an opportunity for a transformative cultural and educational experience. Scholars will get exposure in an international setting which will bring lifelong benefits to the individual trainees as well as to the institutions in which they would be affiliated. The training and exposure they will receive will also broaden their understanding of research techniques, principles, and interdisciplinary approaches and thus will expand their scholarly horizons, a necessary step in becoming a more confident researcher in any corner of the world. Such an experience will also provide invaluable insights into the nature of the bi-national academic community and may often result in lifelong friendships and a broad bi-national professional network. All domains of studies that help building stronger academic and research networks between both countries from Social Sciences and Humanities, Arts, Commerce & Management and  STEM subjects are considered for the fellowship/ programme.  However, applications are encouraged in the current priority areas of government of India i.e. Teacher Education and Leadership, Teacher Education and Leadership, Library Management and Development, Conservation and Heritage science and Management, Curatorship and Museum studies, Architecture, and Culture management, Curatorship and Museum studies, Architecture, Culture management, Health Care, Information & Communication Technology, Energy, Sustainable Habitat, Nano-technology, Water Resources & River Systems, Advanced Materials, Manufacturing, Security & Defence, Environmental Science & Climate Change.

Applicant must be from member institutions of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute of good standing either from India or Canada. Three components of this fellowship are:-

1. Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Doctoral Students will be awarded to students enrolled in Doctoral programs in India/Canada with a significant focus on India/Canada, to enable them to access relevant research material as well as conduct research in India/Canada which will subsequently help them to get their degree. For the duration of the Fellowship, the Students must be affiliated to a Canadian/Indian institution. The selected applicant or awardee is encouraged to confirm his / her travel by 31st March 2017 or at least initiate the process on or before the aforementioned date.

Eligibility

Number of Awards : 10 (Ten)

Value of Award : $ 590 per week

Duration : The proposed/accepted period of research will be upto 6 months for doctoral students.

2. Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Post-Doctoral Students will be awarded to scholars from India and Canada who have been awarded a Ph.D. degree and wish to pursue further research in India/Canada. Applicants need not have an academic position. The applicants are required to apply for this fellowship within five years of being awarded the Ph. D degree. The selected applicant or awardee is encouraged to confirm his / her travel by 31st March 2017 or at least initiate the process on or before the aforementioned date. 

Eligibility

Number of Awards : 8 (Eight)

Value of Award : $ 590 per week

Duration: The proposed/accepted period of research will be upto 4 months for post-doctoral scholars.

3. Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Students will be awarded to Indian and Canadian students who have completed two years of degree i.e. Bachelor, Masters or M. Phil programme at recognised Indian & Canadian universities or institutions of higher education to take up or to pursue a course (module/part of a course), or do an internship at recognised Canadian& Indian universities. The selected applicant or awardee is encouraged to confirm his / her travel by 31st March 2017 or at least initiate the process on or before the aforementioned date.

Eligibility:

Number of Awards : 12 (Twelve)

Value of Award : $ 500 per week

Duration: The proposed/accepted period of research will be up to 8-12 weeks for students.

Fellowship package:
The fellowship package will cover- 1. living allowance, 
2. Economy class airfare from the place of origin to the place of affiliation in the most direct route, 
3. Visa fee, 
4. Compliance fee, 
5. Student registration/affiliation fee,
6. Oversaes insurance.
7. Research allowance ( applicable to doctoral candidates only)

Disbursement of Funds:

The stipend will be disbursed in two equal installments. The first installment will be released upon signing of letter of agreement between SICI and recipient’s institution closure to the awardee’s journey to Canada or India. The 2nd installment of stipend will be released upon submission of mid-term progress report. The remaining 10% of the award money will be released upon submission and approval of a final report to SICI by the recipient.
